Parramatta - Honey Restaurant

Nestled at a corner on The Other Side of Parramatta is Honey Restaurant, a Persian joint serving what feels like a home cooked meal. The prices are as affordable as you can get in Parramatta, in which Honey sits just a street away from Church St, a stretch of road packed full with oftentimes expensive chain restaurants and a bustling nightlife to match.

We walked in at lunch time and it was very much empty save for a couple tables. A friendly woman greeted us and sat us down at a narrow wooden table that seemed carefully arranged with heart. As it was my first time here, it seemed fitting to order the Honey Special which includes 3 of their meats- chicken, lamb mince and lamb fillet- so you could try one of everything. We went up to the counter to order our food, from which it was apparent that the friendly woman who greeted us was also working the kitchen!

In short, the Honey Special was excellent. Each meat was splendidly succulent and tender. I had a hard time deciding which was my favourite as each had a distinct taste and texture. And the saffron rice - life changing. This was my first foray into flavoured rice, and as someone who has had plain jasmine rice for as long as I had teeth, it just opened up new horizons for me. If you have a small stomach like me, then the Honey Special can be easily shared between two. We also got a side of Kashk E Bademjan (not pictured), a lovely eggplant dip filled with herbs and spices.

The Honey Special, $25

I will definitely come back to Honey to try the other delicious looking items on the menu!
